Origin of Ho'oponopono
Ho'oponopono means to make right or to correct an error. It is an ancient Hawaiian releasing technique.
Self I-dentity through Ho'oponopono is the updated version created by Kahuna Morrnah Simeona. Morrnah's full name and title is: Kahuna Lapa´au Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona.
She was chosen to be a Kahuna at the age of 3 at which time she received her gift of healing.
Morrnah's updated form of Ho'oponopono, called Self I-Dentity through Ho'oponopono is now taught by Morrnah's student and my teacher,Dr. Stan Hew Len.
The technique is an ancient problem solving process that corrects erroneous thoughts. Every experience we have ever had, consciously or sub-consciously are playing back memories.
There are no new problems and no memories. The same programs have been playing since the beginning of creation. The process enables us to release the memories held in our subconscious to finally reveal our true identity.
It is not a becoming - just a revealing. Peeling back the layers of the onion so to speak, to reveal the inner essence, our beingness.
What is a memory and how do I know its playing?
Our subconscious records millions of bits of data that we are not aware of. The small bit of information we consciously process and are aware of is just a fraction of the stimulus that impacts our beliefs.
The information we process is constantly impacting our beliefs without our conscious permission. That is why every popular personal development teacher in the world warns us to guard our mind.
To be careful what we allow into our subconscious by limiting our access to television, certain types of music and especially the news.
When we were growing up and too young to know how to defend our minds we absorbed everything that was going on around us and interpreted the meanings based on our understanding of the world as a little child.
Those beliefs are still running our lives to this day.
When we don't release the erroneous thoughts we do not act with free will as most suppose we do. We are certainly not able to act from inspiration with memories playing.
Our responses and reactions are coming from a memory. A place inside us where a memory resides. A memory which, we are probably not aware of that has attached, "un-consciously", the meaning of a certain situation.
A certain situation or circumstance happened at some point in our past and it could be before we were born. It could have been a memory from an ancestor, relative or family member.
Somehow, a decision was made about the meaning of that situation and when we are confronted with something that triggers that memory in us today - we are not choosing how we will respond in the moment.
It could have been as innocent as a child overhearing a parent repeat the phrase "it isn't easy" as it was with me. I spent a lifetime working harder than I needed to because somewhere inside of me, without my conscious awareness, I just knew, in order to be successful you had to work hard.
If the memory continues to play and we do not clear it - we can not hope to control our decisions today.
How often do you ask yourself why you do the things you do not want to do? Why for example can't you accomplish the things you believe you want for your life?
For me, I wondered what it was I was working so hard for. I wasn't enjoying my life - all I did was work. It wasn't until I was able to release that limiting belief and others that I was able to move into the flow of my life.
Into that place where creation is easy and effortless. A place that has nothing to do with "it isn't easy".
You know the difference between an inspired action and one that is playing from a memory if you just observe yourself.
There are only two possibilities, we are either acting out of inspiration or memory. We know when it feels good and we loose track of time and are fully present in the moment that we are acting out of inspiration.
When we can't quiet our minds and seemingly small things frustrate us; when our reactions to a situation seem bigger than the situation warrants...or simply when we are not living the life we want to live...we are working from a place of memory.
Observe how you are feeling in any moment and you will know if you are living in memory or inspiration. A little trick I learned from Dolf de Roos was to set a timer or your palm pilot or ipod or whatever you use at noon and say 3:00 pm. When the alarm goes off - just notice whether you are in inspiration or memory.
You will be able to tell - remember, inspiration feels good. You will be absorbed in what you are doing. The alarm should snap you back into this world so to speak.
If you are working from memory, you will know it because you may be stressed, may have a headache, a little anxiety in your gut, or just a sense of uncertainty or being unsettled.
Remember, our responses to the moment are either inspired or a memory replaying. A memory of a decision we made about a particular situation; the memory could have come from our own experience or from our ancestors, relatives and family throughout all of time.
Ho'oponopono is Not Huna!
Originally ho'oponopono utilized a sort of intermediary to the divine. A leader would facilitate a group of people around a particular problem or issue. All participants contributed their perspective on the problem.
In the same way, Huna, Hawaiian for Secret, utilizes teachers and counselors and in some practices are referred to as shamans. The teachers or master creates an intention for healing of another.
Self I-Dentity through Ho'oponopono is different in that the individual takes 100% responsibility. There is nothing that needs to be healed or fixed outside ones self.
The self simply needs to release the memories replaying to allow the big Self to be revealed. One does not need to fix anyone else.
If there is a problem in your life - Self I-dentity through Ho'oponopono teaches that we take 100% responsibility and therefore, we have the ability to release the memory within ourselves and the problem goes away.
How Do I Remove Memories Replaying?
Ho'oponopono is a very simple method and it is in fact easy to do but not many people are willing to do what it takes to release memories replaying.
It requires a desire and ability to control the mind. When I say control the mind I simply mean - to do the ho'oponopono technique.
To do the technique requires vigilence over your thoughts. Do not be fooled by the simplicity of the technique. Remember, given enough water, light and good soil, a flower simply grows.
It does not "do" anything to make itself grow, it just allows itself to be what it is. That is what you will be doing when you practice Self I-Dentity through Ho'oponopono.
Returning to the self that has no limits, where there is no separation between the self and the divine, where anything is possible.
But first you must brush off some of the extra piles of dirt that have fallen over you and darkened your eyes to who you really are. The flower can not sprout or bloom if it is buried under two feet of dirt. Bring the seed close to the soil and it will become the full measure of its being.
Just like the flower, you can become the full measure of your being. You are already perfect just the way you are. It just requires a little dusting off of the dirt to allow your true self to break through the soil, sprout, grow and bloom.
Okay, enough of the flower analogy already, I'm feeling a bit dusty! It is about returning to our original perfect state.
The way we dust ourselves off is through 4 simple phrases:
- I love You
- I'm sorry
- Please forgive me
- Thank you
When you observe an undesired feeling or thought - ask yourself what is it in me that created that "feeling"?
Your super-conscious petitions divinity for release of the memory. You are addressing your subconscious, your inner child, when you repeat the 4 phrases.
Your inner child is the one who holds the memory. You are asking the child for forgiveness for holding onto the erroneous thoughts. Your petition never goes directly to divinity.
There is always the filter of our memories that transforms our petitions to what divinity eventually hears. We must clean the filters so that we can return to the original state.
As I said, it seems simple, but do not underestimate the power of technique. The key is in the awareness of our thoughts, feelings, actions and words and constant cleansing.
